Dover

Tuesday 01/10/19

Bokkie has been neglecting the blog, but with so much going on there hasn't really been time to keep up, so below is a quick summary of what has been going on since we last blogged.

Who can see Bokkie?

We left Bruges and had a fairly uneventful ferry trip from Dunkirk to Dover apart from the fact that climate protesters had blockaded Dover when we landed.  This delayed things somewhat and, as all traffic was then routed up the M2, it was a nightmare all the way past the Dartford tunnel.

We spent the next week in Commons Wood caravan park preparing for the upcoming graduation and spending some time with Charmaine, which was lovely.  Last Thursday we proudly accompanied her and Chris into London for the ceremony near St Pancras station.

Proud parents with Dr Charmaine Micklem

We are immensely proud of her as we are well aware of the enormous amount of work and dedication she has put in over many years in the pursuit of her dream.  She has now qualified as a veterinary surgeon and can begin to put all the training into practice.  We also know that she owes a great debt to her grandparents and family all over the world, who supported her through good times and bad.

We then travelled with her to Coventry to spend time with Ettienne and Debbi who kindly treated us to a lovely celebration supper, complete with bubbly!  Toni and I then stayed on for a few days and got royally spoiled, a real holiday as it was the first time in a year we were able to sit back and have someone else treat us.

The ruins of Coventry cathedral, largely destroyed in WW11.

The glass frontage of the new cathedral.

The only part of the cathedral to survive the bombing.

The weather generally in the UK has been quite miserable with rain every day and more storms building as I type.  I am not sure it will be much better on the other side of the channel but we need to start making our way back to Brittany for our six month sit.

The view from Bokkie's window, nice and close to the ferry terminal.

The view of Dover from the new pier.

We have an early morning as we are booked on a 4am ferry so we're planning an early night.
