Trier

Sunday 15/09/19

Bokkie was quite the international traveller today, passing through three countries without missing a beat.

Entering Germany

We had a good night's sleep watched over by the fishermen tending their rods through the night.  As we were about to leave I was approached by a new arrival, and old fisherman with a broken rod table.  He needed a spanner but spoke only French, my French (compliments of Duolingo) is currently limited to 'It is a horse' and 'It is a cat' but somehow we managed to reach an understanding.  He went away to try and fix his table but returned after a while as he needed help.  I could luckily see the problem and, with him providing shouts of encouragement in French and Flemish, managed to fix his table.  He was very grateful, and we could finally leave.

We headed off to cross some international borders; it was mostly motorway traffic today and the countryside streaked past.  We entered Luxembourg without even a signpost to signal the border and travelled around the capital on our way to Germany.  Before we knew it we were off the motorway and across the border, entering the stunning Mosel valley.

We had to try the beer!

We have stopped for the day in a paid aire (called a Stellplatz in Germany) in Trier, and walked across the bridge into town.  Being Sunday it was mostly closed but we did manage to find an open restaurant for some german beer and lunch and will explore more tomorrow when it is cooler.

Bonus pic; I have told Toni to stop collecting stones on Bokkie's dash, now she is picking rose hips as we go...it's our dashboard mini-garden, complete with hippo.
