Dinan

Thursday 02/07/20

Bokkie is just outside the walled medieval city of Dinan.  We're a day early and it wasn't easy getting here!

We left our spot early this morning with a mission; it was laundry day!  We set off to the supermarket that has a laundry on our way to our next stop, but when we got there we found they only took coins and looked a bit grubby.  We decided to try and find a better one and succeeded in Plancoët; nice clean machines with card facilities.  While busy we got talking to a French fellow motor-homer who drove a 1988 Citroen motorhome with over 1,117,000 km on the odo, very impressive.

We decided, based on how far we had strayed off course, to skip our planned coastal stop and head to Dinan a day early - and things started to go wrong.  Road closures meant Bokkie got led down roads not really suitable for her bulk.  Every time we got to an intersection we would hold our breaths hoping the new road would be bigger, but no.  Anyway, we managed but were stress-exhausted by the time we reached our spot.

The Abbey in Léhon

We has some much needed coffee, waited out the rain and then took a walk along the river and  up some very steep stairs to get to the old town of Dinan.

Basilique Saint-Sauveur

It was very pretty and crammed with tourists, but we decided to pop into the Basilica and were very pleased we did.

Shortly after entering a group of about 10 young men started singing, presumably practicing. It was truly wonderful.  We spent about half an hour just sitting and listening to them; the quality of the recording isn't great but it should give you an idea of the haunting sound.

Tomorrow we'll find somewhere for a final night in Brittany before starting our journey north for our ferry trip.
