Salema Eco camp

Friday 08/02/19

After breakfast we left Silves and headed off to Salema to the camp that uses the ACSI card system giving discounted camping rates.  We remember the area as we drove down to Sagres on our last trip and it really is lovely.

We arrived at the campsite and were quite intimidated by the steep, curved entrance road.  We booked in and were told we could stay on any site that we liked and that the camp was 'quite big'; we were given a map, an access code and sent on our way.  We walked around to find a spot and were astonished at the sheer size of the camp, finding it hilly, complicated and bearing no resemblance to their map at all.  We eventually decided on an area to set up camp but the road looked too steep for Bokkie so we went around another route which, while better, still caused some clenching of jaws on the way down.

It is absolutely lovely here but very remote.  We'll go on a recce on the bikes tomorrow and see what's about before deciding if we'll stay.

We thought we might have the area to ourselves until some late arrivals pitched up...

Can you spot Bokkie?
