Oudon

Friday 07/06/19

We had to pop into one of the local villages to service Bokkie so started the day driving down some narrow country lanes holding up French drivers on their way to work, I can only imagine the muttering...

We then drove to Angers to try and find somewhere to have a birthday breakfast. All the French establishments still seemed to be closed so we popped into an American-style diner.  It turned out to be rather wonderful, and we had a lovely meal (lots of melted cheese) and bottomless coffee - perfect.  There are very bad storms moving across the area at the moment so we dodged rainstorms in an effort to see the city, which is very pretty.  The highlights were the amazing cathedral and wonderful wood-framed buildings.  The architecture is lovely and the city has a friendly and progressive feel to it - probably due to the number of colleges and young students.

A bit of French Americana
Cathédrale Saint-Maurice d'Angers

The camera struggles with the contract but the stained glass was amazing.

The detail on some of the buildings was amazing - a very pretty city indeed.

Mowing your lawn must be quite challenging...

We then drove east to Oudon, into the teeth of the storm with the weather alternating between heavy rainstorms and flashes of sunshine, all driven on by storm force winds.  It seems very unusual weather for the beginning of June, as the peak summer holiday season is less than 4 weeks away...

It should calm down tomorrow but we're thankful our ferry wasn't scheduled for this week.
