Turquant

Wednesday 05/06/19

We're tucked away around the corner from the official aire which
was full when we arrived - hopefully we won't get moved on.
Bokkie doesn't quite know what hit her - basking in sunshine one minute and soaked in cold rain the next.  As forecast, it started raining last night when we got into bed and didn't stop until this afternoon.  Hopefully all the water will damp down the pollen count giving Toni some relief.

Not a good day for photography

The Romans must have been involved in the making of these roads

Cave buildings

Definitely back in wine country
We have left the walnut trees of the Dordogne region, driven through vast wheatfields and emerged back in wine country in the Loire valley.  We took a walk through the village and the area is known for it's caves: the entire area is apparently a warren of limestone caves where people lived until the 1930's.  Now most seem to be restaurants and artisanal and art establishments, but the whole area is quite picturesque with the very neat limestone buildings and caves.

Chateau de la Fessardiere which is now a winery
We walked down to the Loire river and then followed a pathway along the river for a while.  Of course it started out in good condition but soon became quite overgrown and by the end of it we were soaked, not from the rain but from the wet grass. It was still good to get a break in the weather though to stretch our legs a bit - we already miss the 'enforced' dog walks!

The Loire
Tomorrow we will try to visit a local winery that has it's cellars in the caves - it should be interesting.
