Jaca and Miélan

Friday 22/03/19

Bokkie is struggling with all the changes, Hola one day, Bonjour the next, very confusing.  We too are having a bit of a mind-flip having started to get used to Portuguese and Spanish roads, signs and the language to suddenly find ourselves in France again.

Yesterday we had another lovely day driving through northern Spain from Pamplona to Jaca, our final Spanish stop.  The day was clear and the image of driving along with the views of the snow-capped Pyrenees in the backdrop was magnificent.  Jaca, with is close proximity to the ski resorts, is quite touristy but we really liked it.  The Aire was bustling so we had some fun people-watching and were worried it might be noisy but, as usual, the fellow motor-homers turned out to be a considerate lot.

Yesa reservoir, the camera doesn't do justice to the stunning colour of the water

We left quite early in the morning, because we wanted to get through the mountains before the roads got too busy.  The Spanish roads were quite good as we made our way up to the Somport tunnel, 8.6 km long, cutting out the worst of the mountain pass.

Things were fine on the French side as well, except the road narrows at quite a few points where we wouldn't have been able to fit past other vehicles so would have been quite hairy if it had been busier.  Huge trucks race up and down the pass, but we were lucky enough not to meet them at any of the pinch points.

Welcome to France

We do miss the Spanish roads at the moment; the rural French roads are quite an adjustment but we are getting used to it.  The village we are in is lovely with old wood-framed buildings and was very peaceful when we walked around at lunch time but has livened up in the afternoon.

Tomorrow we head to the other side of Toulouse and hope to park in a aire with a laundry nearby so that we can catch up on our chores.

I have made a few changes to the blog, adding a more accessible archive, search feature and subscription buttons.  If anyone uses them, let me know how it goes or if there are any problems.
