East Fleet, Weymouth

 Tuesday 04/05/21

The storm turned out to be everything we were dreading; unfortunately the orientation of our pitch meant the wind was hitting Bokkie from the side causing an unpleasant amount of rocking.  Both Toni and I felt as if we were on a very turbulent long-haul flight, especially when using the loo.  The rocking and noise meant we had a very disturbed night's sleep.  We felt very bleary-eyed this morning so we bundled up and headed off for a long walk in the still raging wind.

We're trying to sample some of the local delights on our travels, something
we feel we sometime missed out on during our earlier travels.  Toni had found a bakery not too far away, with reviews suggesting they make some of the best Lardy Cakes in the area so we popped in to try one.  T

he picture below does not do this delicacy justice!  It was absolutely divine - a very rich, spiced form of layered yeasted tea cake, with a sultana, raisin, sugar and lard layered filling throughout.  It is apparently still served at Buckingham palace tea parties, so we felt in good company when we came back to savour half of it - the other half is for teatime tomorrow.

Although the wind is still quite strong today it is quite sunny so Bokkie has been keeping us nice and warm.  One almost forgets to bundle up before venturing out.

We took another walk this afternoon just to clear some lingering cobwebs; the area really is lovely.  The wind has moderated a bit and swung around to a better angle so here's hoping we have a good night.
