The rain arrived on Saturday night as expected and didn't stop until the next morning. It was nice, steady rain and because we weren't parked under trees it was quite soothing so we slept well. Sunday was a grey day and we were surprised to see a cap of snow had fallen on the hills behind us. It was chilly but we managed a nice walk in the forests around the campsite and did a few chores.
Look closely and you can see the snow |

Amazingly all signs of the snow had disappeared on Monday although there would be plenty more where we were heading. We set off along some hair-pin bends between Vence and Gattières, where the Lidl was located, did our shopping and searched unsuccessfully for a laundrette; we would have to find one along the way. We routed around the Parc naturel régional des Préalpes d'Azur, travelling through the foothills of the Alps and were treated to the most incredible sights. The road was hewn out of the solid rock of the mountains in places and, although the road didn't always look Bokkie-sized, we made it through. Absolutely fantastic day's driving!
Villages seem to cling to the sides of the mountains |
The signs assure us Bokkie will fit! |
Nothing pretty, they just chopped a hole through the rock. |
Our satnav decided to pick nice narrow roads today. |
Along the way we managed to find a laundry and then also found out we had been accepted for another last minute house-sit near Issigeac. We'll need to speed up a bit as it starts on Friday and we'll be looking after two dogs, two cats and two horses and a Shetland pony for a week.
We are currently parked in an Aire next to the cemetery in Villeneuve, a beautiful (tiny) hilltop village. We went for a late afternoon walk through the village and in the surrounding area before settling in for the night.
