Cadiz

We were treated to a special sunrise from our back door this morning.

I forgot to tell a story yesterday; when we arrived at our chosen spot Bokkie wasn't very level.  This is quite common and in areas where allowed we have two ramps that we use to level her off as best as we can.  It helps the fridge and waste plugs work better and makes things a bit more comfortable for us inside.  Usually Bokkie is quite well behaved and sits on the ramps with the handbrake on but for some reason she kept rolling back off and we had to chock the wheels.  Only later did we discover the bike pedal had snagged the chain link fence and this was pulling Bokkie back like an elastic band.  Very embarrassing, but no damage done.

So, having decided to leave Gibraltar, we took a very scenic drive through the Parque Natural del Estrecho and stopped near Tarifa, a popular kite surfing area.  It was a stunning morning and in hindsight we should have stopped for a day.

A lovely lagoon on our coffee break

We drove to a parking spot on the outskirts of Cadiz, an ancient Spanish town we wanted to visit on our last trip.  It's a noisy spot but ideal to cycle into the old town, which is what we did.  There are miles of beaches until you finally see the old city walls and then the stunning old city within.

We caught the end of the indoor market before they closed up at 1400 with everyone descending on the Tapa bars.  The seafood looked amazing but we couldn't get it back to Bokkie on our bikes, so just took some pictures instead.

I don't think they want anyone to post letters here

Even the Spanish pigeons take siesta

While we did not much feel like more city stays after Gibraltar, we are pleased to have come to Cadiz - it feels like a really authentic medieval Spanish town, and well worth the visit.  Onwards tomorrow though....
