Playas de Luz, near Isla Christina

Thursday 10/01/19

For anyone with a fear of ending up homeless and sleeping next to a motorway; it's not so bad - as long as you have a Hymer (or other appropriate motor-home).  It was a busy, noisy spot outside Cadiz    but we still managed a fairly good night.  We left at the crack of dawn as we had a long day's driving ahead of us.

We had to head inland to go around Seville, so on our way we stopped at a Lidl to stock up Bokkie's lockers and fridge.  Parts of the road between Cadiz and Seville were very bumpy so everything got a good shake on the way. Interesting to see it's not just the UK's roads that are full of potholes! We had a cuppa and a bite to eat in the Lidl car park (gluten-free cheesecake, a real treat!), and set off again towards Portugal.

Spotted one of the iconic Bulls on the road

No more dry desert or rocky mountains, rolling hills here
We're in a new camper park just outside Isla Christina (where we spent a night on our last trip).  It's not hot but the site is very sunny and we may spend a few days here in the sun, detoxing in a more rural setting than we have been used to for the past week or so.  There are a few cycle routes to explore the area, something we couldn't do last time.  The site is situated on a tidal river estuary and there is a lot of bird life about.

We try not to mock translations too much as we certainly don't have a command of Spanish, but we had a good giggle at some of the Spanglish in the campsite rules -"Do not throw wipes or other items into the toilets that may cause traffic jams."  I suppose all the hooting must be annoying!

We brought out the Cadac and smoked up the campsite with pork sausages and pancetta on the braai, leaving the other campers in no doubt that the South Africans have arrived.  It is lovely here!
