La Cala de Mijas

Friday 04/01/18

We set off bright and early with a mission in mind, a somewhat mundane one; laundry.  We headed to a nearby Repsol garage that had a Lavomatic unit attached - a self service laundry.  When we arrived and found parking nearby we went in and bought tokens - I have now 'mastered' the art of communicating in Spanish without speaking more than two words myself (just agree with everything said, and then smile), and somehow we managed to get the correct tokens.  We used a massive 14kg machine to pile all our laundry in, none of this splitting lights and darks when you are in a motorhome, luckily it all came out as per original.

The more mundane side to motor-homing
The advantage of taking your home to the laundry is we could sit comfortably and make a cuppa while we waited.

The Respol also had LPG so I brought Bokkie around into the tiny forecourt and topped up the tanks.  We had only used 1 tankful since 17 December costing €14, not bad for running the fridge, all our cooking and heating the water and the van at night.

We made our way along the coast to La Cala de Mijas and stopped in a massive industrial-looking car park.  There are loads of motorhomes parked up, but the main reason we stopped here is we hope there will be a market tomorrow.

Can you spot Bokkie between her friends?

We took a walk through the seaside village squeezed in between the A7 motorway and the sea.  Pretty enough, but so far Nerja still holds top spot for us as a beautiful Spanish coastal town....for retirement one day?

We hadn't had a very good night's sleep in Torre; the council installed cheap manholes in the street so every time a car drove past we could count the 'clunks' to see if it missed any along the way.  A drunk (or nutter) also walked down the road at midnight screaming something at the top of his voice every minute or so.  Because of this, a quick nap was  called for after a light lunch (we bought some gluten-free croissants at the Aldi and Toni cleverly 'baked' them in a pot) and we went for a cycle into the hilly interior which was great. It showed us a totally different view of the town - the golf estates around the coast are quite spectacular and expanding rapidly.  Supply and demand!

You can have a roller coaster ride in your cart while paying golf at this course..

..and only be a stone's throw away from the coast
