Playa de Cala Sardina

Sunday 06/01/19

Bokkie is parked in a dusty car park on the beach just outside the town of San Diego.

They started setting up stalls for yesterday's market (when we were still in Calle de Mijas) as the sun came up and we went for a walk through it at about 0930.  As usual we arrived well before the masses who only started to arrive some time later, and we bought some stunning fruit and veg.  The quality of the produce is really impressive!

Can you spot Bokkie?

The market petered out at around 1400, and the vans packed up noisily and departed leaving masses of litter which the municipality duly came and cleared up.  The car park filled up again in the evening as there was an event in town and we were entertained watching harried Spaniards fighting to get parking spots; they do everything at high speed.

This morning we serviced Bokkie and set off quite early, destination Estepona.  Our route, trying to avoid the toll roads, took us straight through Marbella; luckily it was very quiet, being Sunday morning.

The A7 along this stretch of Spain runs along the coast so it has been quite scenic.  Before long we arrived in Estepona, another pretty tourist city / town?  The parking area was alongside the marina but didn't really appeal to us so we went for a quick walk to see more of the town.  We found they had just set up the market in the marina (I think we recognised some of the stalls from yesterday) so we strolled along, enjoying the sunshine.  No more buying though - we need to cook all our veges...

Someone had thrown donuts into the water so there were a few fish-scrums

As we walked back we realised we were parked in the parking lot the market-goers would be using so we decided to scarper before it was too late and we got parked-in.  We had a second site in mind; hopefully a quiet spot on the beach which was more what we felt like.  And this spot, once we arrived, is exactly what we wanted: sun, sea and sand, and not many people or shops around!

We went for a short walk along the coast and it really is beautiful.  The Med looks stunning, wall to wall sunshine and no wind (yet).

There are stunning views across the Straits of Gibraltar and we have had our first misty glimpses of North Africa.

We might stay here for a couple of days, before heading on to Gibraltar.  It will depend on the wind and weather, as we have food, drink and water enough...
