La Linea

Tuesday 08/01/19

We are within spitting distance of the Queen's territory, camped alongside the border between Great Britain and Spain.

Even the weather is adding to the drama

Bokkie's view of the Mediterranean coast is obscured by a huge rock someone put in the way.  It is quite an imposing rock, visible from miles away, even more so from close up.  We are parked in the marina on the Spanish side as the traffic and lack of space within Gibraltar can be an issue with a motor-home.

We set of with backpacks and walked into Gibraltar, through border control and then across the runway. It all looks quite grubby and industrial, I suppose from all the traffic, and is very built up.

Bustling main road, are we in Spain or in Britain?

The Main road in the 'Old Town' was bustling and it was quite nice to get out of the centre as we walked around.  The views are stunning as you climb and, although it looks to be a fairly small town on  a map, because of the steep roads, the walk is not for the unfit!  On the way back across the border,  we all had to wait as a BA flight took off before we could cross the runway.  Quite an experience!

Whilst there is still a lot to see in Gibraltar, it is very touristy and somehow we are just not feeling it! The weather's not brilliant with an icy wind so we may get moving again tomorrow.
