Playazo beach, Nerja

Tuesday 01/01/2019

Bokkie has started the New Year full of energy with a run down the coast and we are on the outskirts of Nerja.

Last night I thought of the Robbie Williams song 'Party like a Russian' and it was clear to me he had never heard the Spanish party in the New Year!  We faded quite early (as usual) and were in bed at a respectable hour, even before midnight SA time, and tried to sleep with ear plugs.  The local British pub (aptly named 'Stumble Inn') had loud live music until just after midnight but the Spanish club(s) carried on until 7am.  Man, they know how to make a noise!  We were chatting to some of the other motor-homers and everyone had an interrupted night's sleep.

We woke up to the most beautiful day, serviced Bokkie and set off.  We even filled her up with Diesel as a New Year treat.  At the bargain price of €1.03 per litre (less than £1) she was a cheap date, the best price we have seen yet.

We travelled down the A7 twisting along the mountains, through tunnel after tunnel.  As it became more mountainous the space for growing vegetables reduced but every available outcrop had an installation on it with an access road.  How they service and harvest these crops is truly amazing.

Vegetable tunnels on every available space

We turned off to Nerja and are situated in a free parking area with a few other motor-homes and all the locals visiting the nearby restaurants.  We walked into town and discovered it to be quite stunning, both the coastline and the village itself.

It is quite touristy as we are only about 50km from Malaga and definitely getting to peak tourist areas.  The town was very busy - presumably as it was New Year's day - and has a really nice vibe.  The green parrots are as noisy as anything in the palms, reminding us of our day in Barcalona.

We may stay another day, hopefully we can catch up on some sleep tonight and explore more in the morning.  The weather is promising to be sunny and beautiful again...
