We are being buffeted by gale force winds next to the largest lagoon in the Ebro Delta.  It's apparently a wonderful place for bird-watching but with the winds all flights have been cancelled.  That coupled with the fact that it is hard to walk upright means we haven't been out much and we are cowering in a rocking Bokkie.

We had a fantastic night's sleep outside the Cava winery and woke to a crisp, cold morning, it's much colder in the interior.  We had an early start and headed to the port at Torredembarra as that had been our intended layover last night and looked like a nice place to stop for coffee.

Torredembarra

I was tempted to get my rod out...

Shortly after leaving to continue we noticed that the wind had picked up markedly making driving quite challenging.  It was a direct cross-wind and really howling but Bokkie behaved quite well.

Once we left the A7 for the final stage of the journey we were faced with a single track road between the flooded fields of the delta.  It was tarred, quite bumpy and we had to stop to let cars pass each time they came from the front.  The inevitable happened and we met two motor-homes on their way out.  We managed to turn into a dirt track to let everyone get past and then had to reverse back out again before carrying on.  This went on for about 10km so not looking forward to getting out tomorrow.

This stop is a very interesting place; if the weather was better we would have been able to spend more time walking, cycling or visiting the bird hide; there are apparently sometime flocks of flamingo's on the lagoon.

Strange tractors for working on the mud

It's a bit like Witsand on a bad day
Tomorrow the wind should calm for a few days then return later in the week.  We'll see if we can hide further south. For now we're spending the day reading and relaxing - and a Skype catch up with Dad & Danelle, and Nuwe Kat.

As the evening closed in on us the wind that hounded us all day treated us to an extraordinary display with the sunset.  All the motor-homers suddenly emerged with their cameras to try and capture the spectacle.
