Apologies for the quality of some of the pics, they are taken on the move, through the windscreen |
We were the only motorhome in the stop overnight
and it was pitch dark and very quiet, only the odd car passing and owls
hooting. We had a good night’s sleep and were up and about quite early, as
usual. We decided to avoid toll roads today as we didn’t plan on driving too
far. It all went fine until we routed into the hills and road got really
narrow. Passing through the little villages was getting challenging and
encountering cars, trucks and vans from the front was causing us problems.
Unfortunately it resulted in me swiping a sign post with my mirror, folding it
in but luckily not breaking it. We pulled off as soon as we could to repair it
and decided to try and re-route to wider roads.
Once we found a better route
things improved and the scenery just kept getting better.
We were were in
quite a rural area, similar to the Boland and then as we passed Narbonne we got
a glimpse of the Med. We could see the sea and in the distance are the
snow-capped Pyrenees.
We then drove through the resort area of Port Leucate
with a massive lagoon on the one side and the sea on the other. It all
went quite well until we reached our destination and the satnav sent us down a
tiny service road, luckily we just fitted, not great for our nerves though! We are finding we
need to check every inch of our route to make sure we don't get caught out but
that's the price you pay when you are too tight to buy a proper satnav. (this might change in future....)

This road was not designed with Bokkie's big butt in mind! |
We are staying in a motorhome parking lot up against the harbour in St-Cyprien for the night.
It is quite a functional spot but suits us at the moment and we have had a
lovely walk along the boardwalk. It is reasonably warm at last and we
have been able to dry everything off, I even had to open the box with my summer
clothes to get some shorts - bliss. We are surrounded by French vans,
most with dogs and even a cat next door so the night should be interesting.
Tomorrow we will try to find a campsite, more than likely in Spain.
We had some reports that main motorway through the border was blockaded on
Sunday as part of the protests so we will investigate and plan our next move. For now, we're having a lovely drink and supper...
