Pineda de Mar

In
spite of the close quarters and myriad of pets around us the site was very quiet
last night and we got a good night’s rest.
We were convinced the French van next to us was planning an all-night
party as he spent all afternoon clearing the space behind his van, setting up
tables, weeding along the fence and putting up a floodlight. Turns out it
was just to keep himself busy, as it was all quiet on the western front. We were treated to a lovely sunrise and a
short rainbow over the mountains.
We
were planning on taking the D900 into Spain and making for the Costa Brava to find
a campsite for a few days and possible take a train into Barcelona. Toni has been a few times and wanted to show
me some of the sights. The early stages
of the D900 proved too much for us, narrow winding passes and villages, we had
to keep stopping in the town at the border crossing to squeeze past oncoming
vans. We chickened out a short while later and hopped onto the toll road but
soon felt we were letting the side down so we jumped off again. It was fine
after that, it appears we had already passed the worst of the route. The rest of the drive down was fairly
un-eventful until the end when we arrived outside the wrong campsite which was
closed. Luckily we sorted it quite quickly and found a way around (again, navigating some fairly tiny streets through the town).
We
are in a campsite about 50m from the beach, a quick walk across the road and under the
railway line and the (pebbly) sand stretches for miles. There are motorhomes from all across Europe here, a real mix of nationalities. The sun is quite hot but there is quite a
cold breeze so it feels quite mild. We
have dipped our toes in the Med and it is cold but not as cold as Cape Town can
be. Won’t be swimming much, though. We have to remember that we are still heading into winter.
A
few days to recover, do laundry and a few jobs on the van as well as a trip
into Barcelona so not sure how often we will blog. Tonight though it's a traditional South African braai, complete with boerewors, thanks to Ettienne!
