Oradour-Sur-Glane to Monferrand

It rained all night and was still pouring in the morning so we made flexible plans so that if it was still raining at our initial destination we would push on and try to eat up some more miles.  And rain, it did!

No matter, we were driving through some of the most wonderful scenery, through the Dordogne Valley and over the highest viaducts, it would have been spectacular on a clear day.  We had planned on stopping north of Toulouse but decided to push on to a site near Montferrand, between Toulouse and Carcassonne and are pleased we did.  We had an unexpected bonus when the protesting ‘Yellow Jackets’ disabled our toll gate and we could exit the final toll road without being charged.  We then drove to the parking spot which is un-serviced but in a lovely location.  The area is noticeably warmer, not warm, but warmer and reminds me of Stellenbosch in the winter.  The trees are lovely and the air smells of pines and freshly ploughed fields.

We went for a walk to the Obelisk and then along the canal for a short distance.

We managed to fill our water tank (after a comical foot patrol and three circuits of the services in the Hymer before managing to get to the tap) so have enough of everything we need – we’re also managing to settle in to showering in Bokkie, which is remarkably comfortable.  We are hoping to find a campsite soon that is open in winter so that we can do laundry and relax for a few days. The biggest push to get through France is now almost done.

I am experimenting with adding location details at the top of the post, there should be a link through to Google Maps (the link may not work but you should be able to cut and paste into Google) and coordinates, let me know if they don’t work.

  2. No, we're miles from mastering it, you should see all the bruises on my head. We are learning every day and having many more laughs than grumbles. We're in Spain now and at least it's much warmer than the UK.
